WTL: Which three words sum up what KASTNER PALLAVICINO stands for?

WTL: How would you describe the signature of your work?

KP: The signature of our work is the product itself – the body suit. We decided to focus on it as it accentuates the female body.

WTL: How was your brand born?

KP: The concept of our brand was born in 2014, when we were discussing about what was “in fashion” at that period. We thought about what always goes well with high-waisted pants, and the body suit was the answer. Also, to create a line of bodies specifically intended to be an alternative to a blouse or top.

WTL: What is your vision for the label?

KP: The vision and aim of our brand is to bring the body suit back. We designed a collection of bodies and to complete the beauty of the silhouette also created a pair of high-wasted trousers – making it the perfect blend of elegance and comfort.

WTL: What kind of woman is wearing your bodies?

KP: Every kind of woman can wear our pieces, it only depends on how you style them. You can wear them with jeans or a long skirt, so age doesn’t really matter.

WTL: In a dream world, whom do you want to see wearing your bodies?

KP: We would love to see Jane Birkin in our bodies!

WTL: Do you have a style icon or muse?

KP: One of our muses is Virna Lisi, an Italian actress.

WTL: Do you have any rituals when designing?

KP: We don’t have rituals while we design, I guess that when we get inspired we start designing. We do not have any deadlines to meet, since our collection is seasonless.

WTL: Who is responsible for doing what at KASTNER PALLAVICINO?

KP / Helena: We take care together of the designs, but when it comes to speaking with tailors and choosing fabrics, I am in charge. Virginia: And I take care of social media.

WTL: Virginia, you grew up between Rome, London and Switzerland. How do these different cultures
and countries influence your work?

KP: I was born and raised in Rome. The city’s artistic environment has always been something I looked up to. In Great Britain and Switzerland, two very different countries, I have learned about the differences in cultures and how they can blend together easily.

WTL: Where do you feel home the most?

KP: I feel most at home in Rome – Rome is home.

WTL: Helena, can you please tell us a bit about your time with Karl Lagerfeld at Fendi?

KP: He was the biggest inspiration in fashion for elegance and innovation.

WTL: How did you two bring it all together? What was the “starting point”?

KP: The starting point was at the Hotel Locarno while having a drink. We had to attend a party the day after and discussed about what to wear – we wanted something fresh and new. To cut a long story short, we decided to make it ourselves!

WTL: What was the best advice someone ever gave you?

KP: The best advice? If there was a best advice it came out of a bottle of Champagne, not from someone.

WTL: How would you describe your personal styles?

KP: Our personal style is very simple: high-waisted jeans with moccasins or AllStars during the day, and high-waisted pants at night with a body and heels, of course.

WTL: What style advice would you give?

KP: The only style advice we can give is that one should always wear what makes them feel good about themselves, and sometimes dare.

WTL: If you could shop anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

KP: Online probably covers the entire globe, and you can be wherever you want, so go and shop on our website

WTL: How important is social media for you?

KP: Instagram has helped us a lot, and social media as a whole is a very helpful tool.

WTL: What do you like to do when you are not designing?

KP / Helena: when we are not designing, I love to kite surf. Virginia: I love to read.

WTL: What’s your happiness secret?

KP: Do what makes you happy, and if you cannot finish what you have started, there is always tomorrow.

WTL: What is your favorite dish?

KP: Our favorite dish is very bizarre, its an Italian vegetable… PUNTARELLE!!!

WTL: What is your secret beauty and health regime?

KP: We wish we knew…

WTL: We could not live without….

KP: …Champagne!

WTL: What was the last book you read (and liked)?

KP / Virginia: EMBERS by Sandor Marai. Helena: ARTIFICIAL PARADISE by Aldous Huxley.

WTL: Which movie would you watch again and why?

KP / Virginia: Meet Joe Black. Helena: Amores Perros.

WTL: What is your favorite restaurant, bar and club?

KP: Restaurant: Pierluigi in Rome. Bar: Loos Bar in Vienna. Club: Greengo in Gstaad.

WTL: If you could leave us with one thought, what would it be?

KP: We can think of two…

Thank you Virginia and Helena for taking the time!
